Sierra Chapter ROAD-E-O
May 2, 2009
It has been some time since the Sierra Chapter has hosted a Truck Road-E-O. The purpose of a Road-E-O is to give recognition to the many quality and skilled collection drivers & mechanics, in the field of Solid Waste. This year on May 2nd at the World Ag Expo grounds in Tulare a spirited competition took place, with 17 drivers going through eight (8) different types of stations, in three (3) different types of vehicles (Side loaders, Roll-off and Front-end loaders). The contestants were challenged against a difficult course with skilled drivers from Merced to Bakersfield as competitors. As part of the over-all score a written test and pre-trip vehicle inspection test is given to the contestants. This year, the California Highway Patrol administered the pre-trip inspection portions of the competition. For the mechanics competition, a written test and pre trip inspection followed by a challenge in finding solutions to two improper running vehicles is given. After all the drivers and mechanic completed the competition, lunch was served followed by an award ceremony to present the top contestants with trophies and prize monies.
Family and friends showed up at the World Ag Expo grounds this year to cheer their favorites on. Entertainment included a commercial driving simulator from the California Highway Patrol. The City of Tulare Fire Department was giving Fire truck tours and demonstrations to the kids and families. The City of Tulare Parks and Recreation provided face painting, and games for the kids. A bounce house was also provided for hours of enjoyment by the kids. The weather was perfect and everyone had a great time. The Sierra Chapter was pleased to host the Road-E-O back in the central valley again and would like to thank all of the sponsors, organizations and individuals who donated resources and time for this event (forgive us if we missed your name below). The Sierra Chapter would also like to thank the competitors and families; the Road-E-O would not have been possible without all of you! Don't miss the next Road-E-O; it will be a great time by all! See you all there!
