The Sierra Chapter congratulates 2021 scholarship recipients Samantha Redelfs, Matthew Zetz
Samantha Redelfs – Samantha will be studying Civil Engineering at the California State University, Fresno. She maintained a 4.0 GPA in high school while participating in the Class of 2021 Club where she helped make decisions on issues facing her graduating class throughout high school. With an understanding of the importance of proper disposal of materials designed for single-use, she hopes to combine her career goals of working in the civil engineering industry with efforts to improve on the solid waste management within the community.
Matthew Zetz – Matthew will be studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of California, Merced. He maintained a weighted 3.6 GPA in high school while participating in the Robotics Team where he took a leadership role as CAD (Computer Aided Design) Director leading a subgroup in design and modeling using Solidworks. As part of the Robotics Team, he also helped train new members and volunteered his time educating elementary school children about robotics. As he works towards a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he hopes to use his learned knowledge to invent and improve on the mechanisms utilized in solid waste management.
