RICHARD H. TOWNLEY SCHOLARSHIP
The Central California Sierra Chapter of SWANA plans to award at least two R.H. Townley Scholarships to deserving students who will graduate from high school in 2019 or are current a freshman at a junior college or four-year college/university, and will be continuing their education at a junior or four-year college/university. The amounts of the scholarships are to be determined based on the specific qualifications of the applicant, and may range from $500 to $1,500 per scholarship. The scholarship candidates must be the son, daughter, grandson, or granddaughter of a member in good standing in the Central California Sierra Chapter of SWANA. Based upon the response from previous years, only two or three applications are received, as there are only a few students within the Sierra Chapter family who qualify in any given year. Therefore, the chance of any applicant winning one of the two scholarships is very good. In addition to the scholarship, each scholarship recipient will be offered a one-year student membership in SWANA compliments of the Central California Sierra Chapter.
We have integrated our local Sierra Chapter’s R.H. Townley Scholarship application process with SWANA International’s 2019 Category I, Grant H. Flint International Scholarship Awards Program. However, the Grant H. Flint International Scholarship is only applicable to scholarship winners that will be graduating from high school. The Category I, Grant H. Flint International Scholarship application form will be used for both scholarships. Some of the application submittal requirements differ. Specifically, our Chapter’s Board of Directors has determined that application for the Sierra Chapter’s R. H. Townley Scholarship will not require submitting SAT/ACT/Achievement Test Scores or a letter of acceptance to an accredited institution.
If an applicant is awarded a scholarship from the Sierra Chapter and wishes to send their application for consideration for the SWANA International’s 2019 Category I, Grant H. Flint International Scholarship, then the SAT/ACT/ Achievement Test Scores and a letter of acceptance to an accredited institution must be submitted directly from the issuing institution, as per requirements set forth by SWANA International. The Category I, Grant H. Flint International Scholarship application forms and information regarding completing the application can be found at https://swana.org/Awards/ScholarshipsInternships.aspx
